Will being a AFS Argentina foreign exchange(Summer community service) student, help me get into med school?
I am a senior at high school planning on traveling aboard to Argentina for 2 months. I am planning on participating in community service where can do one of the following: - Volunteer in orphanage -Help teach soccer to children with disability -work on environmental projects restoring parks. Which activity would be best for medical school? Do you that med school would like the fact that I went aboard to Argentina or not really since I did it during senior year at high school?

it will certainly be an asset on your resume, and on applications into good schools. but I hope you are volunteering for the good you can do, not solely to score points later.

Find out! Phone or mail a couple or med schools - check on their curriculum, ask at the community service your going with. I would suppose that , by obvious deduction, volunteering in orphanage is best for general med while as working with disabled children is more interesting if you are entering that line of medicine. Glad you're coming. Good luck

Not really if you do it in high school because you don't get credit. Colleges have international study offices that offer exchange programs related to the field you are interested in so choose something in the medical field. Check out the Committee for Safety of Foreign Exchange Students for help. This will help you a lot.

Yes, having the chance to study abroad is something phenomenal. Recently I attended a medical school conference in Columbia, SC, and we actually had to chance to speak to the admission panels. They told us that during your interview, tell them something interesting because if you don't, you are just like the rest. So having the chance to study abroad is something that many people refuse to do, but it looks awesome on you resume and you could tell them about your experience. I actually plan on studying abroad in either Costa Rica or Spain because I'm a Spanish minor. I'm planning on studying abroad a year from now. So anyone should take the opportunity to study abroad.

Both are great countries but I'll chose France, but it is up to you.....which language is more beneficial to you? I already speak Spanish so I'll go for French lol
2 :
Choose the language, the countries, the culture you're attracted to. Because even if you have a thousand reasons to learn some language and not the other, if you're not motivated you will never be able to speak it correctly and it will be useless. So if you feel like going to Argentina next summer, go for Spanish, and if you feel like going to France, go for French. Whatever you choose, just remember that you have to be good at it and you're the only one who can tell what language you like the most.

I think Spanish is more useful. It's spoken in more countries than French.

My cousin went while studying Anthropology at the University of Oregon. He loved it so much he still teaches English there! The only con was that as his visa expired every 90 days he would need to cross the border into Venezuela to renew it. Other than that he loved it immensely, and recommended that anyone who could go, should!

Yes; these are the requirements listed on their website. International Transfer Students What are the requirements for International transfer students? "The TOEFL requirement is based on the linguistic background of applicants, not citizenship. TOEFL is required of all applicants who have not attended an English language school for the last five years and whose primary language is not English. Applicants who score 670 or higher on the Critical Reading section of the SAT do not have to submit TOEFL scores, but are welcome to do so. Non-native English speakers attending English language schools for the last five years are not required to submit a TOEFL score but may do so to supplement their application. IELTS will be accepted from applicants who live in countries where TOEFL is not administered. A score of 7.0 or higher on each band is expected on IELTS. All international applicants must complete the International Student Certification of Finances form. You can access the form here: http://apply.jhu.edu/pdf/2010/application_international_finances.pdf. To submit the form, download the form, print it out, complete it, and mail it to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. This form is required for an international student's transfer application and therefore must be submitted by the application deadline. Without this form, an international transfer application will be considered incomplete and we will be unable to review it for admission."
