Is it worth going Argentina for a student Alone?
Is it worth going Argentina for a student Alone?
Hi everybody, i'm a 20 y.o student and in february i will probably spend 3 weeks in B.A. to improve my spanish. I've always been in love with south America but i didn't have the opportunity to discover it. However on the internet i've found a very good school called "Expanish" placed in BA, i'm gonna stay in a host family, obviously chosen by the school. Do you think it could be a great experience? I travel alone and actually i'm little bit worried about the city's safe (i am a boy and i speak spanish). I searched on the internet and i read about very different opinion (who said is dangerous, who not). Can you give me some suggestions? thank you all. thank you very much.....actually you little bit scarried me! but it's okay! i mean, i visited so many places i know the way to avoid this kind of situation...it also wouldn't be a problem money stuff. i'm from Italy and i will change euros in my country

To be honest it is dangerous. I think if you go there with the right mind set you'll be fine but you need to know how to take care of yourself. Its mostly people pickpocketing you in crowded areas or targeting you because you look like a tourist. Just try to blend in and watch your stuff at all times. If you have a money pouch or something that you can put under your clothes and put your important stuff and money in that would be awesome. Try to keep everything as close to your body as possible and have copies of your credit and debit cards and passport, etc. Don't walk into shady places by yourself, if someone is hassling you just walk away swiftly and they usually leave you alone. Keep your things securely on you or near you. If you have to sit on your jacket or wrap your strap for your backpack around your arm while you eat, do it! Sorry I'm in a serious rush which is why this is so unorganized. But I think its very important that you know that a lot of tourist get pickpocketed and robbed in BsAs and that it can be avoided! I've been there twice and managed to come back with everything I went with. You need to be alert at all times and have copies of things in case you become a victim out there. Also, if you can avoid it do not EVER carry US dollars. Those situations can get hostile as USD is worth a good amount in BsAs and elsewhere. Just watch your stuff and more importantly watch yourself. Hope I didn't scare you too bad. In my blog I also write about ways to keep your stuff safe. Look for the two entries about BsAs. www.aventurasenuruguay.blogspot.com But its worth it. I would love to live there some day. :)

Are there any famous singers that are HUGE over there like Taylor Swift/Miley Cyrus/Etc... is here? What are some average prices for daily things? Are the people friendly? Do you know of any books that have a lot of info about argentina, but not like a travel guide? AND most importantly, name something interesting/fun about the country. I am a high school student looking to go abroad this summer for a month in Chile or perhaps Argentina?
does anyone know of any good programs that would allow me to travel to these places and stay with a host family. A summer school program there would be preferable as well as low prices. Please let me know if you have a suggestion, Thanks. -S.
