Why do Americans think of Che Guevara as a dark latino who helped his people? ?
He was a good man who did help the people of Latin America but he was not a poor dark indian latino. He was an upper middle class WHITE medical student from Argentina. He was like Lawrence of Arabia for the Latinos. Yet, why do Americans think of Che as a dark Latino who came from the barrio? They never think of him as a white man even though he was of Spanish Basque and Irish decent.

Che was not a good man. He was a passionate man with misplaced ideals and a twisted sense of right and wrong. He was a ruthless killer. Still, The Motorcycle Diaries was a pretty good movie.
2 :
Because americans are ignorant and they think they are the only white people on earth. Anyways argentinians are of mapuche descendance too.

france or spain spanish is easier to pickup but they both have a lot of similarities

Well they speak English in Ireland... what are you interested in? what kind of things do you want to see? Are you interested in history? Culture? Food? What do you want to get out of the trip?
3 :
I say JAPAN!!! Most everyone speaks some English so Japanese is a little easier to learn when they can help you and the culture shock is a total adrenaline rush! It's soooooo amazing there. Look into it though...Don't go somewhere just because of the language.
4 :
Sweden, its absolutely amazing there and Swedish is a beautiful language.

I agree that Sweden is a very beautiful place and that the language is very nice. It is surprisingly similar to English. With that said, I would choose Argentina for the food, culture, language, and weather.

Argentina! I've been here over a month and love it. Spanish is a pretty easy language to learn and there are tons of Spanish schools here. Plus, Buenos Aires is such a fun city. You can learn some basic info about BA at http://landingpadba.com/category/ba-basics/

What are good presents for a Argentine host family?

What are good presents for a Argentine host family?
I'm from Australia, and living as a student exchange in Argentina for a year. What present would you recommend as appropriate for the host family on arrival?

Bring them something Australian! Something unique from YOUR culture. A lot of people make the mistake of bringing something for THEIR culture, but I think they see enough of that! Show them where you come from and how life is where you live. They're probably as interested in you as you are in them. Cheers!!

Alojargentina offers the warmth of an Argentine guest family to achieve an optimum cultural interchange. You may choose single or double rooms with private or shared bathroom. These homes are ready to welcome guests and provide them with bed linen, towels, maid service, breakfast, phone call reception, Fax and Internet.

I'm going to be an exchange student in ARGENTINA next year! I am SO excited :) Anyways is there anything specific I should know? Are there any famous singers that are HUGE over there like Taylor Swift/Miley Cyrus/Etc... is here? What are some average prices for daily things? Are the people friendly? Do you know of any books that have a lot of info about argentina, but not like a travel guide? AND most importantly, name something interesting/fun about the country. Oh, and I'm in Spanish 3, hopefully that'll help me some :D Muchas gracias!

I can't answer all your questions, but I can help with a few ... The people I met while traveling through Patagonia were cautiously reserved at first contact, but became incredibly warm, friendly and helpful very quickly - all you need is eye contact. I had several instances where I ran into problems, and in each case complete strangers went out of their way to assist me. Prices seemed about the same as here in the states for many things, but there were some significant values - taxi service is so cheap as to be practically free by our standards, and restaurants were also relatively inexpensive. Bus travel is also very inexpensive, and quite comfortable - almost like flying. Tipping can be a little different, so talk to your host family about that. And speaking of restaurants, if you like beef they have the best in the world - lean, flavorful, and much healthier than most supermarket beef here. The variety is a little limited compared to what we eat here, as my friend Juan explained to me "We eat beef, pork, and pastry here!" The coffee however, is awful - enjoy the tea or matte instead. Throughout patagonia there are scattered many natural history museums - if you're interested in dinosaurs, it's a great place to be. There are also whales, penguins, seals and many other types of marine life on the Eastern coast. Finally, your language training will certainly help, but be aware that they speak a more European form of Spanish than the Latin American/Mexican variety that is generally taught in the schools here. Still, I'm sure you won't have any real problems. Have a great trip!
