i have a friend that lived in Spain to flee the war in Bosnia.. she never complained about Spain being racist and she was in immigrant in that country. You'll have to see when he gets there. Just because one person says that a country is 'racist' does not mean that there are not open-minded people that still live there. I have several friends from Spain that are definitely not closed off or racist in any way.

There are problems everywhere with racism. He should be fine.

dont worry about it. dont judge one person just because you hear something about them from someone from a completely different country. i don't get pissed at ALL canadians just because SOME practice the "sport" of clubbing seals, or ALL white people just because SOME hate blacks for no reason, etc. yaknow :]

If he's racist send him back. Or lock him in the cellar.

Hi. I am from Spain. This may surprise you but about 12% of our population are immigrants. Most of them from Latin america, followed by east europeans and people from north center and south of Africa, since we are the nearest european country to Africa. So you see, it cannot be a "culture shock". We have the same problems that you do in Canada with racism. And don't tell me you all live in peace and harmony because that's not true in any country. There always will be some stupid people that feel better than other rest. Your Argentinean friend may have had a bad experience here, but it doesn't mean that the whole country is racist. Exactly where do you get these ideas of spanish people being more racist than any other country?

People in Spain are NOT racist, any more than any place else. That is crap! He will surely be told to accept what he sees as the local culture and ways...that's what exchange students are all about...and they ARE prepared by the organizations as to what to expect. I have a friend from Spain who lives here...US. No worries.

I feel sorry for him does he know he's going to a racist trolls house?? Maybe we should warm him

In Spain we have a lot of immigrants too, and not everybody is a racist.

Which country should I choose?! Foreign Exchange student question here!?
Which country should I choose?! Foreign Exchange student question here!?
I can be quiet, but I like to have a good time. I'm 15, and will be 16 in December. I enjoy being social, whether it's going to things like Frat Parties or having friends over for drinks. Here's the countries I can pick from... Argentina Italy Australia Japan Austria Mexico Belgium Netherlands Brazil New Zealand Canada Norway Chile Portugal China Puerto Rico Costa Rica Romania Russia Denmark Finland South Africa France Spain Germany Sweden Greece Switzerland Hong Kong Ireland United Kingdom Australia isn't an option, unfortunately due to the prices it would cost. I also am not into skiing so please don't recommend Switzerland because of it's great skiing. lol

i STRONGLY recommend japan. i was a foreign exchange program there and it was the best decision of my life. it was like a dream. because i am American i became instantly popular. the language is easy to pick up on and it look VERY good on a college application. because of japans role in the technology advancement of the world, it almost ensured me getting into a good college. the people were nice and the guys were hot. plus they have alcohol vending machines, walking coca-cola dispensers, hot springs, cute clothes and more. I'm even planning to move back when i graduate to teach English. it is like another world there. a truly great experience!! trust me. hope u have fun!!!!

Sorry, but just from the way that list is arranged, you aren't thinking of going through Two Worlds United are you? Please don't, i've always been told they are a scam, and there are a lot of angry people on the internet wanting their money back. I would go through a more reputable agency, please! Rotary are a much cheaper, genuine agency, or if you want to go commercially perhaps AFS? I was going to suggest Aus, but since its too expensive, i guess that also puts New Zealand out of the question. It just depends, do you want to learn a new language? Where have you always wanted to go? There are shy people in every country.

I'd go to Brazil.

Tulane will give you a better education than Vermont so I would go with tulane university

Tulane and U Vermont are both well ranked, respected American universities. So in terms of academics, you could pick either one and be fine. But they're in two very, very different environments. Both are actually in great college towns. U Vermont is in Burlington, VT; which is a very fun town. Tulane, of course, is in New Orleans, which is a city with a very distinct culture. Vermont has a true winter and a beautiful fall; while New Orleans has a very hot and humid summer, and a more mild winter. Which environment do you think you'd prefer? If it would help you, get a guide book to the US and read up on the two locations, so you can make an educated decision. Vermont is beautiful; but so is New Orleans. Really, in my opinion, you can't make a wrong decision with either one.
