where can I find information about group theory?
where can I find information about group theory?
Hello. I'm physics student from Argentina and I'm learning about group theory. I want to apply this on physics and differential equations. I wonder if you know where there is information about and what book recomend. In particular i'm interested on symmetries, Lie's Algebras and Tensors. Thanks!!!

Just look for standard books on modern algebra, topology, differential equations and tensors. For Modern Algebra, serch for a good author like Ian Herstein. for tensors search for author Wetherburn. for differential equations and topology search for J.F Simons. Tell me if you find proper books nyn_3@yahoo.com

Chemists use "Chemical Applications of Group Theory" by F.A. Cotton. Go to Amazon.com, search on group theory (link below), and then read the reviews for books that look interesting for physics.

You are going to run into some difficulties because mathematicians and physicists have rather different emphases and notations in this area. Most of the math books that cover Lie groups assume a lower level abstract algebra course (which covers finite groups). The best treatment for physicists I have found is 'Symmetries in Physics' by J. P. Elliot and P. G. Dawber. If you really want a mathematical treament, you should look into books on differential geometry first (to get a good definition of Lie group) and then check out a book on representation theory for Lie groups.
